Colonel Nathaniel Blair was an English colonist and the founder of Blair, Maryland.
Biography[]
In 1630, Blair undertook an expedition to Black Hills Forest. He asked a native-American tribal chieftain to support him in his enterprise. This, however, threatened with sabotage and vanished. Despite this setback, Blair and his men built a fort to defend Lord Calvert's Maryland colony against Indian tribes. A village soon grown around the garrison and eventually they named it after Blair.[1]
Blair succumbed to illness and left his wife, Virginia Blair, to run the village.[1]
