Damon Bowers was the sheriff of Burkittsville, Maryland in 1941.
Biography[]
After the disappearance of Emily Hollands on November 13, 1940, Bowers led the search of Hollands. However, Bowers and the residents of Burkittsville soon learned the fate of Hollands and six other missing children who came after her.[1] On May 25, 1941, local hermit Rustin Parr confessed to the murders of seven children. Bowers and Deputy Charlie Hobart hiked to Parr's house in the Black Hills Forest, where they found the mutilated remains of the children buried in the cellar.[1]
Bowers oversaw Parr's trial and sentencing to be hung. He was on hand to stop any interference that may arise at the controversial decision to hang Parr, as many people wanted retribution for Parr's act of atrocity.
